A delegation from the Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO) and the Dhandari Industrial Welfare Association (DIWA), led by FICO president Gurmeet Singh Kular and DIWA president Satnam Singh Makkar, met with Priyanka Meena, project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), to address critical infrastructure and development challenges affecting Ludhiana's industrial sector and residents.
Key Demands Presented
The federation submitted a memorandum requesting dedicated ramp overbridges for two-wheelers at two key locations: near the Giaspura railway crossing and the Dhandari-Focal Point overbridge. These ramps would provide essential access points to Focal Point from GT Road, significantly improving connectivity for thousands of industrial workers and daily commuters.
Addressing Daily Commuter Hardships
The delegation highlighted that inadequate crossing facilities cause daily inconvenience for thousands of industrial workers and commuters. The proposed ramps are expected to enhance road safety, reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and offer substantial relief to those who commute regularly in the area.
Demand for Crossing Facility at Giaspura
Additionally, the federation demanded a dedicated crossing facility near the Giaspura railway crossing to alleviate the long detours and persistent traffic bottlenecks that daily commuters and industrial workers currently face.
Progress on Service Lane Conversion
A detailed discussion was held regarding the long-pending proposal to convert both service lanes from Sahnewal to Jalandhar bypass into concrete roads. Meena informed the delegation that the proposal has already been processed, and construction work is expected to commence shortly.
Underpass Replacement at Dhandari Railway Station
The delegation was also briefed on the proposal to replace the existing underpass near Dhandari railway station with a larger bridge. Meena confirmed that the proposal has been prepared and submitted for approval, with work expected to begin in the near future.
The meeting was attended by several distinguished members of the federation, including Beantpal Singh, Umesh Kumar Narang, Rakesh Narula, Bhupinder Singh, Vaneet Sachdeva, and others.
