Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning, causing waterlogging in several areas and disrupting traffic. The Andheri subway, a key vehicular underpass, was closed to traffic at 7:40 am due to significant water accumulation, authorities said.
Rainfall Data Across Mumbai
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the island city recorded 0.96 mm of rainfall between 7 am and 8 am. The western suburbs received 9.84 mm, while the eastern suburbs recorded 1.25 mm during the same period.
Highest Rainfall in Western Suburbs
Among the western suburbs, Versova recorded the highest rainfall at 69 mm, followed by Vile Parle with 52 mm. Andheri East received 49 mm, Andheri West 46 mm, and Santacruz 30 mm. These areas experienced waterlogging on roads and low-lying regions.
Eastern Suburbs Rainfall
In the eastern suburbs, Chembur recorded 12 mm of rainfall, leading to minor water accumulation in some pockets.
Commuters faced delays as waterlogging affected traffic movement on several arterial roads. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) deployed pumps to clear water from the Andheri subway and other vulnerable spots.
