Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics have announced that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will now launch on February 12, 2027, a delay from its previously announced 2026 release window. The news came during Sony's latest State of Play presentation, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer.
Release Platforms and Editions
The game will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders are now open across all platforms, with multiple editions available:
- Standard Edition: Includes the base game and a Survivor Outfit pre-order bonus.
- Deluxe Edition: Offers 48-hour early access, a Parisian Fugitive Outfit, and a post-launch DLC story pack.
- Collector's Edition: Contains digital content plus physical items like a Lara Croft vs T-Rex statue, steel case, mini art book, Croft signet pin, and Atlantean Talisman keychain.
While the global release date is February 12, 2027, players in Japan, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand will receive the game on February 13, 2027.
Reimagining the Original
Developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Flying Wild Hog, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of the 1996 classic. Built using Unreal Engine 5, it revisits Lara Croft's first adventure with updated visuals, redesigned environments, and modern gameplay mechanics.
According to the official description: "In Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, players will step into the boots of Lara Croft as she embarks on a treacherous globe-trotting quest to discover the lost secrets of Atlantis, with jaw-dropping visuals, modernised gameplay, and new surprises that honour the spirit of the original game."
Enhanced Locations and Gameplay
Iconic locations from the original, such as Peru's Lost Valley and the ruins of Greece, have been rebuilt as larger, semi-connected environments to encourage exploration. Puzzles have been redesigned while retaining familiar elements, and combat, traversal, and exploration systems have been updated to align with modern action-adventure standards.
The developers highlight: "Immersive environments, familiar puzzles redefined with new mechanics, and unforgettable moments – like the legendary battle against the T-Rex – are transformed as epic gameplay encounters on a cinematic scale."
Future of the Franchise
This is one of two Tomb Raider titles announced during The Game Awards 2025. The second, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is also slated for 2027 and will take Lara Croft to Northern India.
