The summer vacation season has significantly boosted tourist footfall at Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), located along the India-Nepal border in West Champaran district. Families from across Bihar and other states are flocking to this eco-tourism destination to enjoy jungle safaris and boating on the Gandak river.
Increased Tourist Arrivals
Gaurav Ojha, West Champaran Conservator of Forests and Director of VTR, stated that tourist arrivals have increased during the summer break. "With the vacation period, visitor turnout at the eco-tourism centre has gone up considerably. All government guest houses are witnessing 100% occupancy. Local tourists are also visiting with their families to enjoy the scenic beauty and spend quality time in nature," he said.
Boating Resumes on Gandak River
Ojha added that boating on the Gandak river has resumed following the rise in water levels, becoming an added attraction. "Tourists are thoroughly enjoying the boating experience," he noted.
Visitor Experiences
Anuj Singh from Patna shared his experience: "Valmiki Tiger Reserve feels like a mini Kashmir of Bihar. Staying amid nature, away from pollution and noise, is relaxing. I had visited earlier alone, but this time I came with my family. My children were delighted, especially after spotting wildlife during the jungle safari. They also enjoyed the eco park on the banks of the Gandak." Another tourist, Rohit Kumar, praised the facilities at the reserve. "The forest and environment department has made good arrangements for tourists. Accommodation and sightseeing are well managed. It is encouraging that foreign tourists are also visiting, and VTR is gaining international recognition, which is a matter of pride for Bihar," he said.

Officials noted that the growing tourist interest is helping establish VTR as a leading eco-tourism destination in Bihar while also promoting awareness about wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism.
