The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project achieved another milestone on Monday with the successful excavation of the 417-metre-long MT-07 tunnel in Palghar district. This marks the third mountain tunnel breakthrough in Maharashtra within the last five months, showcasing the rapid progress of the ambitious high-speed rail project.
Details of the MT-07 Tunnel
The MT-07 tunnel is located at Ambesari village in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district. With a width of 14 metres, the tunnel is designed to accommodate both up and down bullet train tracks. The excavation was carried out using controlled drilling and blasting techniques from both ends, supported by continuous vibration and structural monitoring systems to ensure safety and precision.
Progress on Other Tunnels
The project includes a total of eight mountain tunnels: seven in Maharashtra's Palghar district and one in Gujarat's Valsad district. Among these, MT3 is 80% completed and MT4 is 60% completed, while work on MT1 and MT2 is currently underway. The MT-07 breakthrough leaves four of the eight mountain tunnels awaiting completion.
Officials highlighted that the controlled drilling and blasting method, along with real-time monitoring, has been key to achieving these breakthroughs efficiently. The project team celebrated this latest milestone as a significant step forward in the construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor.
