TN Minister Calls Single-Use Plastic 'Enemy', Urges Traders to Avoid

Madurai: Calling single-use plastic 'our enemy,' Tamil Nadu's Environment and Climate Change Minister V K Rajeev urged traders to stop using such items during an event in Madurai on Saturday. Speaking at a function organized by The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce to honor new ministers, Rajeev pointed to a water bottle in front of him and emphasized that the ruling TVK government is actively working to eliminate single-use plastic.

Minister's Remarks on Ramanthapuram District

Regarding Ramanthapuram district, the minister stated, 'Everyone says Ramanthapuram is a backward district, but I took it as a challenge and will change it into a booming district.' He expressed confidence in transforming the region through focused development efforts.

Chamber's Appeal for Madurai Airport Expansion

Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce President N Jegatheesan urged the government to alter land classifications for approximately 140 acres of land required for the runway expansion project at Madurai airport. While 543 acres of land have already been handed over to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the project, the remaining 140 acres are currently designated as water catchment areas. He requested officials to review the scrapping of a proposal to construct an underpass beneath the Madurai–Aruppukottai highway.

The event was attended by Ministers T K Prabu and R V Ranjith Kumar, along with MLAs A Kallanai, M M Gopison, V M S Mustafa, S Karthikeyan, S R Thangapandi, P L A Jeganath Mishra, and M Vijay Mahalingam.
