Bhubaneswar: The Priyadarshini Market Complex at CRP Square, one of the city's most prominent commercial hubs, is set for a major transformation. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) plans to undertake a comprehensive redevelopment of the decades-old market complex. Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra made the decision on Friday after interacting with shop owners.
Structural Assessment and Decision
A preliminary assessment of the aging structure revealed that repeated repairs and maintenance would not provide a sustainable long-term solution. Considering the condition of the building and future commercial needs, the BDA has decided to redevelop the market complex with modern infrastructure and enhanced public amenities, Mohapatra stated.
Current Infrastructure
The Priyadarshini Market Complex spans 1.44 acres and houses 152 shops, including 72 units on the ground floor and 80 on the first floor. Additionally, it features 100 vending platforms, two restaurants, and five office spaces. The units were originally allotted to local traders on a monthly license and rental basis.
Proposed Redevelopment Plans
The proposed project aims to ensure optimal utilization of the prime commercial land through the construction of a modern market complex. Key features include adequate parking facilities, advanced fire safety systems, improved infrastructure, and enhanced public conveniences. The redevelopment is also expected to create more commercial units, boosting local business opportunities.
Expected Benefits
- Modern infrastructure and amenities for traders and customers
- Increased number of commercial units
- Better parking and fire safety measures
- Improved overall aesthetics and functionality
The redevelopment is anticipated to revitalize the area and provide a boost to the local economy.
