The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has initiated a strict enforcement drive to enforce a 200-meter "No Parking Zone" for passenger-carrying vehicles surrounding all state transport bus stands in the Nashik division. This special operation, which started on June 4, will run until June 15, with the main goal of curbing unauthorized passenger transportation and increasing the corporation's revenue.
Objective of the Drive
"We have commenced this drive to curb illegal 'stage carriage' transportation, where different passengers travel to different locations in the same vehicle. A significant number of vehicles pick up passengers from bus stands and depots, transporting them illegally without proper safety measures," stated a senior MSRTC official from the Nashik division.
Scope of Enforcement
The 200-meter restriction is being rigorously implemented following high court directives at major and transit hubs. The enforcement covers the New Central Bus Stand (CBS), Mela Bus Stand, New CBS, Mahamarg Bus Stand, Nashik Road in the city, as well as all bus depots in rural areas, such as Satpur, Trimbakeshwar, and Yeola.
Impact on Revenue
Unauthorized private passenger vehicles adversely affect the state transport revenue. Therefore, MSRTC conducts such drives regularly to protect its financial interests.
Actions Taken
MSRTC officials are visiting bus stands and taking action against buses and other vehicles, including taxis and private cars, involved in picking up passengers. So far, the corporation has taken action against 17 vehicle owners.
The drive is expected to continue with strict vigilance to ensure compliance and deter illegal operations.
