MCD Installs Aerobin in Rohini to Boost Waste Segregation and Composting
MCD Installs Aerobin in Rohini for Waste Composting

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday installed an Aerobin at a housing society in Rohini as part of its ongoing efforts to promote waste segregation and composting at the source. The Aerobin was inaugurated by Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi at Printer Apartments Housing Society in Rohini.

How the Aerobin Works

The system is capable of converting up to 10 kilograms of wet waste into nutrient-rich compost within approximately 40 days. It employs advanced bio-culture technology that facilitates decomposition without generating any foul odour, making it suitable for residential areas. The compost produced can be effectively used for gardening and landscaping purposes, according to an official statement.

Benefits of Decentralised Waste Management

The adoption of such decentralised waste-management systems on a wider scale could significantly reduce the burden on Delhi's already overwhelmed landfill sites. By strengthening source-level waste segregation, these initiatives help in managing waste more sustainably and efficiently.

The installation of the Aerobin was carried out alongside an intensive sanitation drive in the Rohini zone. During this drive, roads were cleaned using advanced jetting and mechanical sweeping machines, ensuring a thorough cleaning process.

This initiative is part of the MCD's broader strategy to enhance waste management infrastructure and promote environmentally friendly practices among residents. The corporation encourages other housing societies and communities to adopt similar systems to contribute to a cleaner and greener Delhi.
