Bengaluru's 10.3 km Cycling Corridor: A Safer Commute Option

Bengaluru is set to get one of its longest dedicated bicycle tracks as part of the 11 km Major Arterial Road (MAR) connecting Magadi Road and Mysuru Road. The bicycle track is being developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) along the service road of the new MAR corridor currently under construction. Officials confirmed that the bicycle lane stretches across nearly the entire 11 km corridor, excluding the underpass stretch.

Project Progress and Timeline

Road construction works are in an advanced stage, with installation of signages, lane markings, and painting of underpasses underway. The MAR project is scheduled to be inaugurated on June 27 during the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations.

Revival of Dedicated Cycling Infrastructure

This project comes as dedicated cycling infrastructure in Bengaluru has reduced over the years due to Metro construction along several major corridors. The cycling community sees this as a revival of dedicated lanes. According to BDA officials, the Magadi Road-Mysuru Road corridor is expected to provide cyclists with a safer and more reliable commuting route.
