Madurai residents can anticipate relief from the recent scorching heat as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts cloudy skies and a significant drop in temperatures over the coming days. The average mercury is expected to fall by nearly three degrees, accompanied by strong winds and occasional light rainfall.
Expected Weather Conditions
According to the IMD's weekly forecast, maximum temperatures in Madurai will hover around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will range between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius. The skies will be partially to generally cloudy, with some light rainfall expected. This marks a notable departure from the extreme heat of the past few days, where temperatures soared to 40 degrees Celsius.
Relief for Residents and Students
The cloudy skies and cooler weather will provide welcome relief, especially for school children who recently returned to school after the summer break. The change in weather is attributed to the delayed onset of the monsoon season in Kerala, which is now expected to bring respite from the heatwave affecting the country.
Heavy Rainfall in Neighboring Areas
In Tirunelveli district, the Manimuthar falls have been experiencing flooding for the past five days. Reports indicate that Manimuthar received 17.4 mm of rain on Monday, while Nalumukku recorded 102 mm and Oothu saw 114 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, at Courtallam, bathing has been banned as a precautionary measure following a sudden inflow of water due to heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday afternoon.
Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions during the rainy days.
