Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, conducted a series of high-level engagements with leading corporate and technology executives to discuss investment expansion, supply chain resilience, and emerging technologies. The discussions underscore New Delhi's growing economic and technological partnership with Washington.
Meeting with Walmart Leadership
Ambassador Kwatra met with Chris Nicholas, President and CEO of Walmart, to deliberate on the retail giant's deepening footprint in the Indian market. The meeting focused on Walmart's long-term growth plans and its commitment to building resilient supply chains. Kwatra described the conversation as productive, highlighting the company's investments in India.
Engagement with Special Competitive Studies Project
In another meeting geared toward futuristic tech collaboration, the Indian diplomat engaged with Ylli Bajraktari, President and CEO of the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP). This interaction took place ahead of Bajraktari's upcoming visit to New Delhi for the prestigious India-US Forum, where bilateral tech ties are expected to be a major focus. Kwatra noted that they exchanged perspectives on advanced technologies including Quantum and the future of AI, including Physical AI, and the expanding India-USA cooperation in the tech space.
Counter-Terrorism Cooperation
Ambassador Kwatra also reinforced the core security architecture of the bilateral alliance by holding a high-level meeting with senior US counter-terrorism official Sebastian Gorka. They deliberated on evolving threats posed by global terrorism and reviewed counter-terrorism cooperation outlined in the India-USA Joint Statement of February 2025. This security framework stems from the bilateral mandates established by Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump during their diplomatic summit earlier this year. Both leaders strongly reaffirmed that terrorism must be fought and terrorist safe havens eliminated worldwide.
Joint Statement Highlights
The joint statement from the PM Modi-Trump summit on February 13, 2025, outlined specific collaborative intelligence and defence milestones. Both sides committed to strengthening cooperation against terrorist threats from groups including Al-Qaida, ISIS, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, to prevent attacks like the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan. In tandem with these objectives, the US recently announced the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. President Trump and PM Modi jointly called on Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 and 2016 Pathankot attacks to justice and ensure its territory is not used for cross-border terrorism.
Non-Proliferation Efforts
Expanding the scope of their defence alliance, the two leaders also pledged to work together to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, and to prevent terrorists and non-state actors from accessing them, as recorded in the joint statement.
