Dhubri: A significant quantity of ganja was confiscated at Bongaigaon Railway Junction from the Rani Kamalapati Express arriving from Agartala on Monday. The contraband was intercepted by the railway crime branch during a search operation and was recovered from the water tank of the train's S6 coach, a railway police official confirmed.
Details of the Seizure
When questioned by TOI about the value of the seized contraband weighing 40 kilograms, the official stated that the market value could range between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. "We have seized a total of 36 packets weighing 40 kg from the train, but none of the passengers in the coach claimed them," the official said.
Smuggling Tactics
The official further elaborated on the methods employed by smugglers. "Inter-state smugglers always adopt different approaches and tactics to transport contraband to various states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, and other parts of the country," he added.
The seized ganja has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the drugs. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage and passenger manifests to identify potential suspects involved in the smuggling operation.
