ECB Advances T20I Start Times for India Tour to Boost Indian Viewership
ECB Advances T20I Start Times for India Tour

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has adjusted the start times for three floodlit T20 Internationals during India's upcoming white-ball tour of England, aiming to enhance television viewership in India. The matches were originally scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM local time (11 PM IST) but will now commence at 5:30 PM local time (10 PM IST), allowing Indian fans to watch the action conclude around 2 AM instead of nearly 3 AM.

Schedule Adjustment for Indian Audiences

India is set to play five T20Is and three ODIs in England from July 1 to July 19. According to ESPNcricinfo, the ECB advanced the start times following discussions with broadcasters. This move underscores the commercial importance of India matches for English cricket, as tours involving India remain among the ECB's most valuable broadcast properties.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Earns Maiden Call-Up

The timing change comes shortly after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced squads for the T20I series against Ireland and England. Shreyas Iyer will captain the side, replacing Suryakumar Yadav. The biggest talking point is the inclusion of 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who earned his first senior India call-up after a record-breaking IPL 2026 season.

Sooryavanshi finished as the leading run-scorer of IPL 2026 with 776 runs, winning the Orange Cap. He scored one century and five fifties at a remarkable strike rate of 237.30. His campaign earned him five individual awards: Emerging Player of the Season, Most Valuable Player, Orange Cap, Best Strike Rate, and Most Sixes.

If selected during the Ireland or England series, Sooryavanshi will become India's youngest international cricketer, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record. Tendulkar debuted at 16 years and 205 days in 1989; Sooryavanshi, at 15, has the chance to break a record that has stood for nearly four decades.
