Kolkata witnessed a major anti-encroachment drive on Saturday as the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, in coordination with local authorities, removed illegal structures outside Tala Park. The operation was carried out in the presence of Cossipore-Belgachhia MLA Ritesh Tiwari, who has been vocal about clearing illegal occupations in the area.

Using payloaders, the authorities demolished several encroachments that had been illegally occupying public space near Tala Park. On Monday, a high-level delegation visited Kashipur Ghat, another hotspot for illegal occupation. Officials indicated that similar action would be taken there shortly. The delegation assessed the extent of encroachment and discussed the legal framework required to carry out the removal.
MLA's Statement
Speaking to the media, MLA Ritesh Tiwari said, “During the election campaign, I promised these areas would be freed from illegal occupation by Bangladeshi infiltrators. One step has already been taken with the removal of illegal occupation by Bangladeshi infiltrators from the Tala Jheel Park area, which I also promised during the election campaign and initiated. The previous government did not do anything. Local residents cooperated with us to make this effort successful.”
He further added, “Illegal encroachment in the Kashipur Ghat area will be removed shortly. I am confident that, following all government regulations and due legal procedures, these areas will be cleared of illegal encroachments very soon. We remain committed to ensuring the development, security and welfare of local residents.”
