A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning near Devprayag in Uttarakhand when a taxi carrying eight passengers veered off the road and plunged into a river. Two people were killed, one was critically injured, and five others are missing. The incident took place near the Sainik Hotel on the Badrinath National Highway while the vehicle was heading towards Haridwar.
Rescue Operations Underway
Upon receiving information about the accident, teams from the local police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the district administration promptly arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation. The strong current of the river and the difficult terrain have made the rescue efforts challenging, officials said. Additional rescue teams from Srinagar and Dhalwala have been deployed to assist in the operation.
Victims and Search Efforts
According to official sources, all eight occupants of the taxi, including the driver, are residents of Rajasthan. The joint teams of the SDRF and local police managed to rescue one critically injured passenger, who was immediately taken to a hospital in Srinagar for treatment. Rescuers recovered two bodies from the river, which are being brought to the road using rafts. The search for the five missing passengers is ongoing along the riverbanks and adjoining areas.
The incident highlights the dangers of traveling on mountainous roads, especially during adverse weather conditions. Authorities have urged caution and are investigating the cause of the accident.
