Priyanka Gandhi Condemns Assam CM's 'Wrong Politics' in Targeting Gogoi Family
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wrapping up her two-day visit to Assam on Friday, launched a sharp critique against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. She accused him of engaging in "wrong politics" by dragging the family and children of state Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Gaurav Gogoi into allegations regarding his Pakistan links.
Call for Focus on Development Over Polarization
Vadra urged the Chief Minister to shift his attention toward substantive issues like job creation and state development. "There are two types of leaders in politics—one who practices positive politics and another who indulges in polarization," she stated. "Gaurav is committed to the politics of love." This remark came in response to Sarma's repeated attacks on Gogoi over the alleged Pakistan connections.
Vadra emphasized that the attacks on Gogoi's family were not only baseless but also demeaning. "Nobody's family or children should be subjected to such attacks, especially when the allegations are entirely false," she added, highlighting the personal nature of the political discourse.
Defending Gaurav Gogoi's Political Stance
The Congress leader defended Gogoi's political trajectory, asserting, "I believe Gaurav is on the right track. That is precisely why he is facing such demeaning attacks." She further claimed that the people of Assam recognize these attacks as a sign of the ruling party's fear of Gogoi's growing influence and popularity.
Instead of engaging in divisive politics, Vadra challenged CM Sarma to address the state's pressing issues. "He should speak about his achievements for the people and outline his plans for the next five years. Today's youth are eager to hear about development and opportunities," she remarked, pointing to the demand for accountable governance.
Visit Highlights and Political Activities
During her Assam tour, Vadra visited the cremation ground of renowned singer Zubeen Garg in Sonapur, paying respects to the late artist. Additionally, she chaired strategic meetings to finalize Congress candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, underscoring the party's preparation for the electoral battle.
This visit and her statements mark a significant moment in Assam's political landscape, as national figures weigh in on local controversies, emphasizing the need for issue-based politics over personal attacks.
