Kolkata Police Raid Suruchi Sangha in Biswas Brothers Extortion Case
Kolkata Raid Suruchi Sangha Biswas Extortion Case

Kolkata: In a dramatic turn of events, a large contingent of investigators accompanied by central paramilitary forces raided the Suruchi Sangha premises in New Alipore on Tuesday afternoon, barely 24 hours after the police had conducted a search at the residence of the Biswas brothers. The operation was carried out in the presence of Swarup Biswas, who is currently in police custody on charges of extortion and coercion. Swarup is the brother of former minister Aroop Biswas.

Raids and Seizures

The raid took a dramatic turn when the police broke through the locks to enter the premises, marking the second time they accessed the club known for organizing a popular Durga puja. With central forces cordoning off the New Alipore locality to prevent any potential law-and-order disruption, the police remained busy until late evening preparing a comprehensive inventory of the seized items to strengthen the case against Swarup.

According to police sources, the high-profile raid came less than 24 hours after investigators discovered a “digitally locked room” inside the New Alipore flat of the Biswas brothers late on Monday night. After initially struggling to crack the electronic lock, cyber experts and detectives managed to breach the room and uncovered a large digital cache. Investigators seized 14 mobile phones, two iPads, and several documents believed to be directly linked to Tollywood’s technician guilds.

Forensic Analysis Underway

“The mobile phones will be sent to forensic experts to extract data as evidence. We are analyzing the call logs and encrypted data to understand why these devices were hidden in a concealed room,” an officer privy to the probe said. While Swarup remains in police custody, his brother, the former minister, is currently “unreachable,” according to the police.

The raids signal an intensification of the investigation into the Biswas brothers, with authorities focusing on digital evidence and financial transactions. The case has drawn significant attention due to the political connections and the involvement of a prominent cultural organization.
