Civil Engineer Arrested for Alleged Murder of Car Cleaner in Ahmedabad Over Bathing Dispute
In a shocking incident in Ahmedabad, a 25-year-old civil engineer has been arrested for allegedly killing a 52-year-old car cleaner after objecting to the victim bathing in the open. The tragic event occurred at Samrajya Flats in Memnagar, according to police officials.
Details of the Incident and Investigation
The accused, identified as Rutvik Jaymalani, had been engaged in frequent arguments with the victim, Kanji Chauhan, over the issue of open bathing. Chauhan, who was homeless and resided in the apartment building's parking area, routinely bathed in the open spaces of the complex.
H M Kansagra, Assistant Commissioner of Police for B Division, provided details of the discovery. During the early hours of Wednesday, a security guard spotted Chauhan lying unconscious in a pool of blood and immediately alerted both police and the 108 ambulance service. Paramedics arrived at the scene and declared him dead on the spot.
Police swiftly launched a murder investigation, calling in forensic experts and a specialized dog squad to assist with the case. The investigation took a significant turn when the sniffer dog stopped outside Jaymalani's residence and began barking continuously at his door, according to ACP Kansagra.
Evidence and Confession
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area and found Jaymalani moving near the parking area where Chauhan was staying around the time of the incident. During subsequent questioning, Jaymalani allegedly confessed to attacking Chauhan with a pestle, repeatedly striking him on the head until he lost consciousness.
Kansagra stated that Jaymalani told police he was particularly upset with Chauhan's habit of bathing in the open, claiming it caused discomfort to women in the area. This ongoing dispute apparently culminated in the violent attack.
Background of the Individuals Involved
Police revealed that Jaymalani had completed a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and had previously worked with private firms. He had recently joined his father's education consultancy business after his father lost his eyesight, adding a layer of complexity to the suspect's profile.
In contrast, the victim Kanji Chauhan had worked in the same building as a liftman for approximately 30 years. A native of Sanand, he was unmarried and had no immediate family members. His body was eventually claimed by a distant relative, highlighting his isolated circumstances.

Ghatlodia police have registered a murder case against Rutvik Jaymalani under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities have initiated further investigation into the matter to gather additional evidence and understand the full context of the dispute that led to this tragic outcome.
