Cuttack House Explosion Claims Three Lives, Including Young Child
A devastating explosion at a residential property in Cuttack has resulted in the tragic deaths of three family members, including a four-year-old girl, due to severe burn injuries. The incident occurred in the Mahajanpur area under Jagatpur police jurisdiction, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Blast and Victims
The powerful blast took place around 6:15 PM on Thursday, allegedly triggered by the assembly and storage of firecrackers within the house. The deceased have been identified as Sudhansubala Nayak, aged 34, her mother-in-law Prabhati Nayak, 60, and the young child Sthitiprangya Nayak, just 4 years old. All three sustained approximately 95% burn injuries, a condition with very low survival rates, as confirmed by medical authorities.
Initially, the victims were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Sudhansubala and the minor girl succumbed to their injuries around 11:30 PM on Thursday during treatment. Prabhati Nayak, who had been on ventilator support, passed away on Friday, according to Subhash Ray, the registrar at SCBMCH.
Police Investigation and Community Impact
The explosion was so intense that it caused the asbestos roof of the house to collapse, alarming neighbors who quickly responded by alerting emergency services. Forensic teams have collected samples from the site for detailed examination to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the blast.
DCP (Cuttack) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo stated that authorities are verifying whether the firecracker activity was authorized and investigating the source of procurement. Statements from family members and neighbors are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe. Further legal action will be taken based on the investigation's findings, he added.
This incident highlights the grave dangers associated with illegal handling of explosives, underscoring the need for strict adherence to safety regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
