Ranchi: Chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar on Tuesday directed officials to ensure the completion of voter mapping from the previous intensive revision voter list by June 15 across the state.
Review Meeting Directives
Chairing a review meeting for the summary revision of the electoral roll, Kumar emphasized the importance of accurate voter mapping. He stated, “If voters are incorrectly mapped, such voters’ lists will appear as cases of anomalies, on which the electoral registration officer (ERO) will be required to pass orders after conducting hearings. Such voters will also have to undergo the summary revision process similar to unmapped voters.”
Identification of Unmapped Voters
The CEO further instructed that efforts should be made to contact every voter on the unmapped voters’ list. Simultaneously, voters in this list falling under the categories of absent, shifted, death, duplicate, and non-citizen should also be identified. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure a clean and accurate electoral roll.
Door-to-Door Visits and Final Publication
Booth level officers (BLOs) will begin door-to-door visits from June 30. These visits are crucial for verifying voter details and addressing any discrepancies. The final publication of the voter list is scheduled for October 7, after the electoral registration officer disposes of all claims and objections. This timeline ensures that all issues are resolved well before the next electoral cycle.
Kumar’s directives underscore the commitment to maintaining an error-free voter list, which is fundamental to the integrity of the democratic process. The state election machinery is now geared up to meet the June 15 deadline for mapping and subsequent steps.
