The Gurugram traffic police have intensified their enforcement drive, issuing a total of 13,195 challans and imposing fines amounting to more than Rs 1.84 crore on traffic violators over the past week. The action was taken to improve road discipline and reduce accidents across the city.
Breakdown of Violations
The challans covered a wide range of traffic offences. Among the most notable were 1,365 cases of wrong-side driving, 300 for road-marking violations, 764 for pillion riders not wearing helmets, and 528 for not wearing seat belts. Additionally, 847 individuals were penalized for driving or riding without helmets, 498 for drunken driving, and 1,229 for wrongful parking. Other offences included 89 dangerous U-turns, 221 cases of triple riding, 30 for overspeeding, 56 for using mobile phones while driving, 48 for noise pollution, and 1,584 for lane-changing violations. The total fine collected during the week stood at Rs 1,84,85,900.
Awareness Campaigns
A senior traffic police officer stated that under the ‘Challan Nahi Salam Milega’ campaign, awareness programmes were organized at 15 locations using the Safety Rath. More than 450 citizens and students were educated about traffic rules, the emergency helpline number Dial 112, and the Traffic Helpline Number 1095. Participants were sensitized to key road-safety measures, including driving within designated lanes, avoiding wrong-side driving, adhering to speed limits, refraining from mobile phone use while driving, wearing helmets, and not driving under the influence of alcohol.
Intensified Monitoring on Key Highways
To curb accidents and maintain road discipline, the Gurugram traffic police have intensified monitoring on NH-48, Dwarka Expressway, and Mumbai Expressway. The officer added that such campaigns will continue in the future to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and enhance road safety for all commuters.
