AAP Violating Model Code in Dhariwal: Bajwa

Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa, has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of blatantly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the Dhariwal assembly constituency. Bajwa alleged that AAP workers are distributing cash and gifts to voters to influence the upcoming by-election.

Bajwa's Allegations

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Bajwa claimed that the ruling party is using its power to bribe voters openly. He said, "The AAP government is misusing state machinery and resources to woo voters in Dhariwal. This is a clear violation of the MCC, and the Election Commission must take immediate action."

Bajwa further stated that his party has gathered evidence of the alleged malpractices and will submit it to the Election Commission. He urged the EC to deploy central forces to ensure a free and fair election.

Demand for Strict Action

The Congress leader demanded that the Election Commission should register an FIR against those involved in the violation. He also called for the removal of officials who are turning a blind eye to the malpractices. "The integrity of the electoral process is at stake. The EC must act without delay," he added.

AAP's Response

The AAP, however, dismissed Bajwa's allegations as baseless. Party spokesperson said, "The Congress is making false accusations because they are afraid of losing. The by-election will be conducted fairly, and we are confident of winning."

The by-election to the Dhariwal assembly seat was necessitated after the death of sitting Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. The polling is scheduled for May 10, and the results will be declared on May 13.
