The 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) was celebrated across Karnal district on Tuesday. Special check-up camps were organized at the District Civil Hospital, Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), and 17 other health facilities, including First Referral Units, Sub-Divisional Hospitals, and Community Health Centres (CHCs). Additionally, 82 camps were conducted at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to provide fixed-day, assured, comprehensive, and quality antenatal care services to pregnant women, particularly during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
Massive Turnout and Medical Examination
Civil Surgeon Dr Poonam Chaudhary stated that a total of 2,664 pregnant women were examined at all designated health facilities under this special drive. She emphasized that good antenatal check-ups are the foundation for the healthy lives of mothers and babies. The initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 9, 2016, with the goal of providing quality antenatal care to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates across the country. Camps are organized on the ninth of every month at these health facilities to offer health check-ups to pregnant women.
Supervision and Participation
All Deputy Civil Surgeons supervised the camps at different health institutions, while Senior Medical Officers and Medical Officers organized them with enthusiasm. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Shashi Garg noted that PMSMA was celebrated across the district and that pregnant women actively participated in the special camp. Not only government doctors but also private doctors provided health check-up facilities. Under the extended PMSMA, name-based tracking and follow-up of identified high-risk pregnancies (HRP) is conducted until delivery and up to 45 days postpartum. An additional 17 camps are scheduled to be held on June 10 across the district as part of the extended PMSMA.
