Sadhguru, known for advocating sustainable living and mindful eating, recently shared his quickest breakfast recipe on Instagram. The recipe involves just one food item: groundnuts. In the video, he states, "One of the best morning breakfasts you can have is soaked groundnut. It is highly pranic."
What Does Sadhguru Say?
According to Sadhguru, drinking one large glass of groundnut milkshake provides a complete diet and can keep you full for 4-5 hours. It is an excellent breakfast that also fulfills your calcium requirements. As per his post on the Isha Foundation website, whole grains, lentils, and nuts are excellent alternatives to milk for daily calcium intake. Groundnuts, in particular, are a complete diet by themselves. In India, many yogis follow a 100% groundnut diet because it is a complete food when eaten raw.
Explaining the correct way to consume groundnuts, Sadhguru emphasizes that they must be soaked for at least six hours in water. This process removes certain elements that Ayurveda identifies as Pitta. Eating unsoaked groundnuts can cause rashes and nausea, he warns.
How to Make the Breakfast
Ingredients:
- A handful of peanuts
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup of water
Method:
Soak the peanuts overnight or for a minimum of six hours. The next morning, you can either eat them as is or blend them with a banana and water. One glass of this peanut shake will keep you full for 4-5 hours.
Benefits of Peanuts
According to a study titled Effects of Peanut Consumption on Cardiovascular Risk Factors, peanuts provide high levels of essential minerals such as magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, and potassium. These minerals support bone, cardiovascular, and nerve health, contributing to overall well-being.
Another study, Peanuts as Functional Food: A Review, states that peanuts are an excellent source of compounds like resveratrol, phenolic acids, flavonoids, and phytosterols, which block cholesterol absorption from the diet. Peanuts are also a good source of Coenzyme Q10 and contain all 20 amino acids, with the highest amount of arginine. These bioactive compounds have disease-preventive properties and are thought to promote longevity. Processing methods like roasting and boiling can increase the concentration of these beneficial compounds.
