A special judge under the Pocso Act in Kanpur has sentenced a man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 42,000 for enticing, kidnapping, and physically exploiting a minor girl. The verdict was delivered on Saturday by Additional Sessions Judge Rashmi Singh.
Details of the Case
According to special prosecutor Bhawana Gupta, the victim's mother filed a complaint stating that her minor daughter, a class 10 student, went missing on March 6, 2019. When she could not locate her daughter, she approached the Kalyanpur police station to lodge an FIR.
On April 4, 2019, the mother received a phone call from her daughter, who was crying. The girl said the accused had enticed her, but the call was disconnected. When the mother tried to call back, the phone was switched off.
Threats and Recovery
On April 6, 2019, the mother received another call from a man named Noor Alam, who claimed to be the accused's brother. He threatened to kill the girl if the mother continued with the FIR, stating that the accused had married her. The police subsequently registered an FIR and recovered the girl after about six months from the Roshan Nagar locality. She was then sent to a women's shelter home.
The court found the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Pocso Act and the Indian Penal Code, imposing a strict sentence to serve as a deterrent.
