Food safety officials in Coimbatore have summoned the management of a private restaurant to attend an inquiry after live worms were discovered in a burger sold at the outlet. The incident occurred on Sunday when a group of young men visited a KFC outlet on Avinashi Road to purchase burgers. While eating, they noticed live worms in one of the burgers and recorded a video of the same.

Complaint and Viral Video

One of the individuals immediately lodged a complaint with the restaurant staff, who provided a replacement burger. Dissatisfied, the customer shared the video on social media platforms, where it quickly went viral. The video highlighted the health risks posed by such food items and urged authorities to investigate and take appropriate action.

Food Safety Department Inspection

Following the viral video, food safety department officials visited the restaurant on Monday to inspect the food items available. They conducted thorough inspections in all areas of the restaurant, including the kitchen and customer seating area. An inquiry was also conducted with the restaurant’s management and staff regarding the incident.

A senior official from the department stated that the restaurant management had denied the occurrence of such an incident. Consequently, the management has been ordered to appear for an inquiry on Tuesday, bringing with them the footage recorded by the restaurant’s surveillance cameras on the day of the incident.

Management Response

When contacted by TOI, a member of the management team at the restaurant said, "We cannot comment on anything now." The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
