Chandigarh: With the mercury climbing to 42.1 degrees Celsius — three degrees above normal — the city is expected to witness some relief in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over a four-day period starting Thursday. Intermittent cloud cover and light rain or thundershowers are likely to provide short-lived respite, preventing temperatures from reaching extreme heatwave levels.
Current Temperature Scenario
According to the Chandigarh Weather Observatory, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which is one degree higher than Tuesday's reading. The minimum temperature settled at 24.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. This spike in maximum temperature signals the return of hot conditions after a brief spell of cooler weather earlier this month.
Weather Forecast and Relief
Meteorological officials stated that isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may affect parts of Haryana and Chandigarh as western disturbances interact with moisture incursion amid the prevailing heat. Such systems typically offer temporary relief, although they may also lead to increased cloudiness and humidity. The outlook for Chandigarh suggests partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity over the next five days.
Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 37 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures are likely to remain in the 24-27 degrees Celsius range. Any rainfall activity may trigger a brief dip in temperatures and improve outdoor conditions. Residents can expect some respite from the intense heat, but the relief will be temporary as the heatwave conditions may return after the rainy spell.
