Kolkata: Screening of films at Inox in Metropolitan Mall at Hiland Park off EM Bypass was stopped from Saturday as the fire licence could not be renewed due to the lack of pressurisation in the stairs and exhaust system in the basement. Mall authorities confirmed that they have initiated work to comply with fire safety norms.
Operations Suspended Indefinitely
The multiplex, which houses three screens, had been operating until Friday. On Saturday, staff at the box office near the mall entrance informed movie-goers that screenings had been suspended for an indefinite period, as work was underway to obtain the necessary clearance from the fire department. An employee of the theatre on the third floor of the mall stated, "Those who booked tickets in advance will be refunded." Movie-goers were directed to other malls.
Mall Management Responds
Abhijit Banerjee, manager of the mall, said, "We received the notice at night and the work on the basement started today. We had an internal meeting and the pressurisation of the emergency staircase will begin as soon as possible." The mall authorities are taking steps to rectify the deficiencies and renew the fire licence at the earliest.
