The Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal (ABMCM) elections are scheduled for Sunday, June 7, across 12 centers in Maharashtra. This marks the first election in nine years for the Marathi film industry body. A total of 3,403 eligible members will vote to decide the leadership for 17 seats.
Candidate Landscape
Forty-four candidates are contesting the elections. The two main panels include the 'Samarth Panel' led by former president Meghraj Raje Bhosale and the 'Chitrakarmi Panel' led by Satish Randive and Anand Kale. Each panel has 14 candidates. Additionally, 16 independent candidates are in the fray, making the contest highly competitive.
Significance of the Election
The election is crucial as several administrative and policy decisions have been pending due to the absence of polls over the past nine years. Stakeholders across the Marathi film industry, including artists, producers, directors, and technicians, are closely watching the outcome. The results are expected to shape the organization's future direction and address long-standing industry concerns.
Campaigning and Voting Process
Campaigning has intensified over the past 10 days. Both panels and independent candidates have aggressively reached out to voters through social media, meetings, and interactive sessions. Returning Officer Ragini Khadke stated, "The election machinery was sent to the polling centers on Saturday. The centers in five districts of Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Nashik will be open from 7 am to 5 pm. The counting of votes will take place on June 8."
With high stakes and prolonged anticipation, the election is viewed as a crucial reset moment for the Mahamandal and the wider Marathi film fraternity.
