The Madhya Pradesh government will establish a literary award in memory of the late Padma Shri Urdu poet Bashir Badr, state tourism minister Dharmendra Singh Lodhi announced on Tuesday.
Condolence Visit to Poet's Residence
Lodhi made the announcement during a condolence visit to the poet's residence in Idgah Colony, Bhopal. He met with Badr's family members, including his wife Rahat Badr and son Tayyub Badr, and expressed the state's tribute to the poet's enduring legacy.
Minister Recites Ghazals
During the meeting, the minister recited several of Badr's celebrated ghazals, highlighting the deep emotional and social resonance of his work. He noted that Badr's poetry continues to touch the hearts of millions.
Consultations with Chief Minister
Lodhi added that after consultations with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the state government moved swiftly to create the award. The initiative aims to ensure that Badr's contributions continue to inspire future generations.
Award Details to Be Announced
The minister stated that details regarding the award's criteria and selection process would be announced shortly. He framed the initiative as a lasting homage to one of India's most beloved Urdu poets.
Bashir Badr, who passed away recently, was a renowned Urdu poet and recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award. His poetry is known for its lyrical beauty and profound themes of love, loss, and social commentary.
