The excise and taxation commissioner department in Chandigarh has seized a substantial quantity of liquor being smuggled out of the city. In a coordinated operation, authorities intercepted a vehicle and later traced a godown, collectively confiscating 35,000 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
Details of the Seizure
The operation took place on the night of June 7 at around 10:30 PM near IT Park lights. Excise and Taxation Inspector (ETI) Shaveen Jain, along with staff from CIA Sector 11, stopped a suspicious vehicle. During a thorough search, they recovered 1,439 bottles of liquor, which included 75 cases of IMFL. The driver of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody, and an FIR was lodged.
Godown Recovery
Further investigations revealed that the stock was being transported from a godown located near the interception point. The godown was traced the following morning, where authorities found an additional 34,608 bottles of IMFL. Notably, none of the recovered bottles bore any track and trace markings, indicating illegal operations.
The excise department is now in the process of filing FIR proceedings related to the godown recovery. The total haul amounts to 36,047 bottles, including both the vehicle and godown seizures. This operation underscores the department's vigilance against illicit liquor trade in the region.
