Thiruvananthapuram: The state government will prepare an action plan to ensure timely completion of projects and will undertake new bridge beautification works, said Public Works Department (PWD) Minister P K Basheer. Speaking to the media after a review meeting with senior officials on Wednesday, Basheer noted that many roads and bridges have been under construction for years without completion.
Priority for Delayed Projects
Priority will be given to completing projects that have been delayed due to various reasons, the minister stated. He urged officials to adopt a practical approach and resolve technical obstacles to expedite project completion.
New Beautification Initiatives
Basheer announced new projects for beautifying bridges and junctions. Assistance from public and private institutions will be sought to enhance the appearance of these structures. Guidelines will be prepared, and a system will be set up to allow the department to directly spend the funds allocated for beautification.
Adalat for Officials
An adalat will be organized for officials to expedite the resolution of promotions and disciplinary actions within the PWD. Practical projects that can be included in the chief minister's upcoming 100-day action programme will be submitted soon, Basheer added.
Pre-Monsoon Inspections
The minister instructed officials to carry out inspections ahead of the monsoon season to ensure road safety and infrastructure readiness.
Road Standards
The government aims to bring all public roads in the state to 100% Bituminous Macadam (BM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC) standards. Basheer emphasized that there are no political or other interests in the development activities, and the focus remains on public welfare.
