A constable attached to the Khar police station in Mumbai has been suspended following his arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a graft case. The suspended officer, Basavaraj Dhamgunde, was serving in the passport verification section of the police station.
Details of the Bribery Case
According to police sources, Dhamgunde allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a complainant in connection with passport-related work. He later reduced the amount to Rs 1,000. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint.
ACB Trap and Arrest
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on May 18. Dhamgunde was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe and was immediately arrested. Following his arrest, the police department issued a suspension order against him on May 22.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the ACB to curb corruption within the police force. The suspension of the constable serves as a stern warning to other officials involved in similar malpractices.
