Fugitive Wanted for 22 Years in Trafficking Case Arrested

A 49-year-old man, who had been evading arrest for 22 years in a human trafficking case, was finally apprehended by the Oshiwara Police in Mumbai. The accused, identified as Rajendra Shinde, was produced before a magistrate court at Mazgaon on June 3, marking the end of a long-drawn manhunt.

Case Background

The trafficking case against Shinde dates back to 2004. When he repeatedly failed to appear for court hearings, the Sewri sessions court issued a non-bailable warrant against him and directed the police to track him down. Initially, police teams visited his last known residence, a slum colony, but found it had been demolished in 2012-13 as part of a redevelopment project.

Investigation and Arrest

Through informants, police learned that Shinde had sold his house in 2005 and moved to his hometown. However, further leads revealed he was not there either. Extensive inquiries eventually traced him to a new residence in Vile Parle. Police kept him under surveillance and took him into custody on June 3. The arrest was made by a team under the supervision of Senior Inspector Sanjay Chavan and DCP Mohit Garg.
